Unite Here Local 40 Did It! Thank You!
TOGETHER, WE DID IT!
Together we won a truly historic union contract for over 1,000 hotel workers and their families!
Together, we showed that everyday working people can unite with tremendous community support and beat some of the wealthiest individuals and corporations in our community.
Together, we showed that Vancouver should prioritize working people, not developers and corporations.
And that women’s safety is more important than wealthy guests.
WHAT DID WE WIN IN THESE HISTORIC CONTRACTS?
Workers won up to 27% wage increases over the contract.
At the end of the contract a full-time housekeeper or cook will make $10,000 more a year than they were before the strike!
Industry-leading changes for worker safety: banning abusive guests, whistleblower protections for workers who speak out, and panic buttons.
Important workload reductions for room attendants to reduce injuries.
Improved discounted transit passes
And much, much, more….
This victory would not have been possible without the tremendous community support!
Your support helped give us the confidence to strike for 59 days and keep going ONE DAY LONGER.
Community volunteers helped in countless ways, including:
Attending weekly rallies
Joining us at the picket line
Volunteering with our boycott team
Donating to our hardship fund
Taking your business out of the hotels
and much, much more….
We are humbled and grateful for your solidarity.
We truly hope you see this as YOUR victory as much as ours.
Together, we are in a new phase of worker power and community power that puts people before profit and our working families before developers.
