Join us Friday to support fellow members on strike at Westminster Savings Credit Union

July 3, 2019

To: All Members & Causals in the Lower Mainland

Members are invited to join a march and rally this Friday, July 5 in support of our fellow Move Up members currently on strike at Westminster Savings Credit Union’s Shaughnessy Station branch in Port Coquitlam. These members have been on the picket line since January 22 fighting to preserve the defined benefit pension plan for all employees.

In June, the credit union informed its members that they are planning to shut down the Shaughnessy Station branch claiming the decision is not related to the branch’s unionized status.

The Shaughnessy Station branch is Port Coquitlam’s lone branch. The workers at the branch understand how busy it is there, despite the credit union’s claims of decreased business.

A march and rally to save the branch will take place this Friday, July 5 starting at 3 p.m. The striking workers will be joined by over 200 attendees of the Summer Institute for Union Women. The march will begin at the Shaughnessy Station branch and will proceed towards the Sunwood Square branch in Coquitlam where a rally will be held at approximately 3:45 p.m.

We invite you to join us in support of the workers.

Date: Friday, July 5, 2019
Time: 3 p.m. march; 3:45 p.m. rally
Start location: Westminster Savings Shaughnessy Station branch (2850 Shaughnessy St., Unit 6108, Port Coquitlam, B.C.)
End location: Westminster Savings Sunwood Square branch (3025 Lougheed Highway, Unit 290, Coquitlam, B.C.)

In solidarity,

Christy Slusarenko
