SOS Kitsilano Coast Guard! Rally To Save Kits Station
The federal government plans to close the Kitsilano Coast Guard Station at the end of the summer, leaving all rescues in Vancouver harbour to the Sea Island Station in Richmond, 17 nautical miles away.
Add your voice to the growing number of elected officials and prominent British Columbians who are in opposition to this decision made without consultation or consideration of the value of the rescue services provided by Kits Station.
The rally will take place on Saturday, August 25th, 2012 at 1pm at Vanier Park in Vancouver.
Among the Speakers will be:
- Adrian Dix, BC New Democratic Party
- Jane Sterk, BC Green Party
- Kerry Jang, Vancouver City Councilor
- Constance Barnes, Vancouver Parks Board Commissioner
Come out and support the efforts to save Kits Station!

Many thanks for the nice explanation.
This is ill-considered. It’s placing funding ahead of lives – in rough weather conditions, when FAST action is required, the nearest aid is going to be almost half an hour away – lots of time for hypothermia to set in or for someone to drown.
Can we get ALL boats out on the water on Saturday to make up a flotilla of protest?
Doesnt the federal govt. realise minutes can save lives ! ,17 nautical miles can take a lot of minutes to cover esp in rough weather ,that could mean a lot of lives!
