Dear Members, Affiliates and Casuals

This year the VDLC is holding a film screening at the Rio Theatre on Broadway.  We will be showing The Road Forward a film about local aboriginal activism.

Tickets are available through Eventbright and are linked through the VDLC website, www.vdlc.ca , or,

Tickets are $20, added donations are most welcome and can be made through Eventbrite, or via cheque mailed and payable to the VDLC.

The VDLC shares a 30 year relationship with Queen Alexandra Elementary School.  Our relationship as a “Partner in Education” started in the mid-1980s, from initial field trips and BBQs it evolved into a breakfast program, funded by the VDLC for 18 years until a private donor stepped into that role.  We now continue our relationship with the Wishing Tree free store.

In 2012, the Wishing Tree opened inside Queen Alexandra, stocked with clothing, boots, jackets, diapers, toiletry items, bus tickets, and non-perishable food (including meals in a bag with a recipe).  These are all made available to QAS families at no cost.

It is important to note that, while the VDLC supports the school with these donations, our emphasis is on addressing the root causes of poverty and low income and provide information to the school’s families on workers’ rights.

The Wishing Tree is completely funded by VDLC affiliates and friends through our annual fundraising.

Thank you for your ongoing support of our relationship with Queen Alexandra Elementary School.
