CLC/UWCC Post-Secondary Scholarship Winner

 In News

Greetings:

Thank you to all the affiliates who shared our post secondary scholarship with United Way Centraide. Thanks to your efforts, we received over 20 applications from youth across Canada. After a thorough selection process, we are pleased to announce that the 2019 winner is Meghrig Karamanougian.

Meghrig is currently a high school student at Eastwood Collegiate Institute in Kitchener, Ontario. She will be attending Wilfred Laurier University this fall. Meghrig is also a young worker and member of the United Food and Commercial Workers Local 175.

Meghrig demonstrated an uncanny ability to make the links between unions, governments and individual every day actions in order challenge the rise of white nationalism and the alt right in Canada, making her a powerful voice for the youth of today and a compelling applicant for our scholarship. We are elated to present her with this award, and encourage you to learn more about Meghrig by reading the announcement here.

While we congratulate Meghrig as the winner for this year’s scholarship, we also wanted to remind you that this is an annual award. As such, we look forward to collaborating with you all again next year for even more applicants across all of our affiliates.

In solidarity,

Hassan Yussuff
President
