Celebration of Life: Doug Sigurdson

 In Uncategorized

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Doug after a short battle with cancer. Survived by his wife Dianne; daughter Jody; son-in- law Dario and grandson Ante. Doug was an amazing man with many accomplishments in his life. President of ILWU local 514 from 1976-2002. Doug was a great leader, loyal NDP supporter, avid golfer and wine maker. He always looked for the good in people and assisted the less fortunate that needed a voice. Doug was a true friend to those who had the pleasure of being close to him. The last few years of Doug’s life were compromised from heart surgery, a hip replacement, and battling colon cancer – but Doug always found joy spending time and spoiling his grandson Ante Douglas. Doug passed away peacefully on June 24, which was his 41st wedding anniversary‚Ķ what a bitter sweet gift. Thank you Doug for 74 great years with us. Your voice was always heard and your cause always made a difference for the better. You will be missed and always loved by many. Celebration of life will be held Saturday, July 20, 2013 at 3 p.m. at the Operating Engineers Hall, 4333 Ledger Street, Burnaby. Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.bakerviewcrematorium.com

Doug and my father Bill Haddow Sr. spent many a ILWU golf tournaments laughing and reminiscing about the good times they experienced over the years. I had the pleasure of meeting Doug a few years before I started on the waterfront, and have good memories of my encounters with him after I made membership in the ILWU.
My sincerest condolences to the Sigurdson family.
