Ports of Auckland advertising for non-union workforce during contract settlements
A “casualised and contracted-out” workforce has been advertised by the Ports of Auckland to replace members working at it’s ports while they are still in talks of settlement with the Maritime Union. While the Ports claim they are testing the market to see if the option of a contracted-out workforce is viable, the Union claims that the ads show the Ports’ hypocrisy. Maritime Union President Gary Parsloe stated that when the members’ jobs are advertised all over the internet, it gives no incentive to collectively bargain for an employment contract.
