Transport Workers Fighting Back – Organising Globally!
6 – 12 October 2014

As you know, the Dockers’ Section has been supporting our affiliates in the Inland Transport Sections during
their annual Action Week over the past few years. We are asking for your support once again this year.
It was agreed to hold the annual ITF Action Week in 2014 on:
6 – 12 October 2014
As in the past few years, 7 October is set as the ITUC’s World Day for Decent Work (WDDW) and many
affiliates participate in the national events on this day.

As in 2013, our campaign slogan for the Action Week in 2013 will be “Transport Workers Fighting Back –
Organising Globally!” and encompasses the broad themes outlined in the ITF 43rd Congress Theme
document including:
‐ Globalisation Crisis and the Global Union Response
‐ Strategic Alliances for Public Services and Sustainable Transport
‐ International Solidarity
‐ Strategic Campaigning for Workers’ Rights and Global Organising.

The ITF is targeting all road transport and railway workers, including passenger and freight, mobile and nonmobile
workers.

As part of the important cross‐sectoral organising along the supply chain and as requested in the past, the
Dockers’ Section is asking its affiliates to assist our brothers and sisters in the Inland Transport Sections in
any way possible, to make the ITF Action Week a success. This year, we are hoping for greater
participation from dockers’ unions as the focus on our joint action will be container safety, an issue of key
importance to both sections. The materials to support this joint action will follow shortly.
Campaign materials from the ITF Inland Transport Sections will be available on the ITF website;
www.itfglobal.org. The campaign page will be updated with guidelines, throughout the lead up to and
during the Action Week.
